01.05Schema & structured data

Tell every engine exactly what your pages mean.

Structured data is the layer machines read first. Done properly it earns rich results, feeds the Knowledge Graph and gives AI engines a clean, verifiable model of your business. Done badly it is silently ignored.

The problem

Most sites have some schema. Almost none have correct schema.

A plugin-generated Organization block with the wrong name, an Article type on a service page, FAQ markup for questions that are not on the page, ratings with no reviews behind them — these are the norm, and they cost more than they earn. Engines cross-check markup against visible content and against the rest of the web; inconsistencies get the whole graph discounted.

How we run it

Schema & Structured Data, step by step.

Step 01

Audit

Every page's markup is validated and compared to its visible content; errors, omissions and risky claims are listed.

Step 02

Design the graph

We define the entities, their @ids and how pages reference them, so the whole site describes one consistent business.

Step 03

Implement and validate

Markup ships in the templates, is validated page by page and checked in Search Console.

Step 04

Monitor

Rich-result reports and validation runs catch regressions when content changes.

Questions

Schema & Structured Data, answered.

What is schema markup?
Schema markup is code — usually JSON-LD — that describes the things on a page in a vocabulary search engines and AI systems understand: this is a business, this is its address and phone, this page is a service, these are the questions it answers, this is who wrote it. It powers rich results and makes your site legible to machines.
Which schema types matter most for a local service business?
LocalBusiness (or a specific subtype such as Plumber, Dentist, LegalService), Service with Offer, FAQPage, Review and AggregateRating backed by real reviews, BreadcrumbList, Person for owners and authors, and WebSite with a linked Organization. Everything else is situational.
Can bad schema hurt my rankings?
Markup that misrepresents the page — fake reviews, ratings without reviews, FAQs not on the page — can earn a manual action and get your rich results removed. Beyond penalties, inconsistent markup makes engines trust the whole graph less. We only mark up what is true and visible.
Does schema help with AI search?
Yes. Structured data is one of the clearest signals an AI engine has for resolving your business into a single entity with known attributes. FAQPage and Speakable markup also point directly at the passages you want quoted.
