01.06Entity SEO

One business. One identity everywhere.

Search engines and AI models organize the world as entities — people, places, organizations — and the relationships between them. If your business is a fuzzy cloud of mismatched names, addresses and profiles, it cannot be confidently recommended.

The problem

Engines recommend what they can resolve

Two spellings of your name, three phone numbers across directories, a Business Profile category that disagrees with your site and no author behind your content — each is small, but together they mean an engine cannot be sure which entity you are, what you do or where. Uncertain entities get left out of answers.

Questions

Entity SEO & Knowledge Graph, answered.

What is entity SEO?
Entity SEO is the work of making your business, people and services unambiguous, well-described things in the knowledge graphs that search engines and AI models use — so that when someone asks for a business like yours, the engine knows exactly who you are and what you do.
Do I need a Wikipedia page to have a Knowledge Panel?
No. Most local and regional businesses earn a Knowledge Panel from a verified Google Business Profile, consistent structured data and corroborating profiles. Wikidata entries help when eligible, but they are not required.
How does entity work help with AI answers?
AI models recommend businesses they can identify with confidence. A clean entity — one name, one address, clear categories, named people, linked profiles — is far more likely to be named and correctly described than a business the model has to guess about.
Is this the same as citation building?
Citation building — consistent listings on directories — is one component. Entity SEO also covers schema, the Knowledge Panel, people entities, topic relationships and how all of those connect. Listings alone will not fix a fuzzy entity.
