01.08AI crawler readiness

Open the door to the crawlers that matter now.

AI engines can only recommend what they can read. A surprising number of sites block, confuse or starve the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Google's AI features — and never find out.

The problem

Blocked, throttled or unreadable

Hosting firewalls that challenge unknown bots, robots rules copied from a template that disallow GPTBot, pages that render entirely in JavaScript, canonical tags pointing at the wrong URL, and no summary a model can use — each one removes your site from the pool of sources an engine can draw on. The fix is small; the cost of leaving it is invisible until you check.

What is included

Scope of the work

  • 01Crawler access audit for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, Bingbot, Applebot and others across robots.txt, firewall and CDN rules
  • 02llms.txt and llms-full.txt authored from your real services, locations and policies, kept current with the site
  • 03Server-rendered, parseable HTML for every important page — no content trapped behind scripts or interstitials
  • 04Canonical, hreflang and sitemap hygiene so engines index the right versions
  • 05Log analysis showing which AI crawlers visit, what they fetch and where they fail
  • 06Policy guidance on what to allow, what to limit and how to keep control

How we run it

llms.txt & AI Crawlers, step by step.

Step 01

Test access

We fetch your site as each AI crawler and record every block, challenge and redirect.

Step 02

Publish llms.txt

A concise, accurate machine-readable description of your business, services and key pages.

Step 03

Fix rendering

Content that only exists after JavaScript runs is moved into the HTML the crawlers actually receive.

Step 04

Watch the logs

Crawler visits are monitored so regressions — a new firewall rule, a CDN setting — are caught early.

Questions

llms.txt & AI Crawlers, answered.

What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a plain-text file at the root of your site that gives AI systems a concise, structured description of who you are, what you offer and which pages matter — a map written for language models. llms-full.txt is the expanded version containing the full text of your key pages.
Should I allow AI crawlers on my site?
If you want to be recommended by AI engines, yes — at least the search-oriented crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and ClaudeBot. Training-only crawlers can be handled separately. We set an explicit policy per bot rather than relying on defaults.
How do I know if AI crawlers can read my site?
Check your server logs for their user agents and status codes, and fetch your pages as those agents to see what they receive. We run both as part of the audit and report exactly what each crawler sees.
Does a JavaScript-heavy site hurt AI visibility?
Often. Many AI crawlers do not execute JavaScript, so content rendered only in the browser is invisible to them. Server-side rendering or static generation of your key pages solves it.
