04.04Conversion rate optimization

More customers from the traffic you already pay for.

Doubling traffic is expensive. Doubling the share of visitors who call or buy is cheaper and compounds across every channel. CRO is a research-and-testing discipline — not a redesign — and it starts with watching what visitors actually do.

The problem

Opinions are not evidence

Most conversion changes are made because someone in the room preferred them. Session recordings, heatmaps, form analytics and funnel data tell a different story — where visitors hesitate, which field they abandon, what they search for and never find. Test the fixes and keep only the ones that win.

How we run it

Conversion Rate Optimization, step by step.

Step 01

Research

Quantitative and qualitative data show where and why visitors drop.

Step 02

Hypothesize

Each finding becomes a testable hypothesis with a predicted effect.

Step 03

Test

Variants run to statistical significance; results are documented either way.

Step 04

Ship and repeat

Winners are implemented permanently; the backlog is reprioritized.

Questions

Conversion Rate Optimization, answered.

What is a good conversion rate?
It varies widely by industry, channel and offer — a lead form for an emergency service and an ecommerce checkout are not comparable. The useful question is whether yours is rising month over month, which is what we report.
How much traffic do I need for A/B testing?
Enough conversions per variant to reach significance in a reasonable time — usually a few hundred a month. Below that we rely on research-driven changes and before/after measurement rather than split tests.
Is CRO a one-time project?
It is a program. The first months clear the obvious leaks; after that each test builds on the last, and the compounding is where the value is.
Does CRO hurt SEO?
Not when done properly — tests are run with the right technical setup and winning variants are implemented in the code. Faster, clearer pages help rankings.
